Rounding Calculator

Round a number to decimal places, significant figures, or the nearest multiple.

How Rounding Works

Rounding replaces a number with a simpler approximate value. The approach depends on what you are rounding to: a fixed number of decimal places, a count of significant figures, or the nearest multiple of a chosen value.

Rounding Modes

  • Decimal places: Keep a set number of digits after the decimal point. For example, 3.14159 to 2 decimals is 3.14.
  • Significant figures: Keep a set number of meaningful digits. For example, 12345 to 2 significant figures is 12000.
  • Nearest multiple: Round to the closest multiple of a value. For example, 47 to the nearest 10 is 50.

Tip: Significant figures are useful in science and engineering, while nearest-multiple rounding is handy for estimating prices, quantities, or measurements.
