What Is Unit Price?
The unit price is the cost of a single unit of a product, such as the price per ounce, per liter, per sheet, or per item. It is calculated by dividing the total price by the quantity:
Unit price = Total price ÷ Quantity
Comparing unit prices lets you see past package sizes and promotions to find which option truly costs less. The bigger package is not always the better deal.
How to Compare Two Products
To compare fairly, make sure both quantities use the same unit of measure. Follow these steps:
1. Use a Common Unit
Convert both products to the same unit (e.g. grams, milliliters, or single items) before comparing.
2. Divide Price by Quantity
Calculate the price per unit for each product so they can be compared directly.
3. Pick the Lower Unit Price
The product with the lower unit price is the better value. The percent savings shows how much less it costs per unit.
Note: This calculator is for informational purposes only. Always check that both products are measured in the same unit and consider factors like quality, freshness, and how much you will actually use.
