Slugging Percentage Calculator

Calculate a batter’s slugging percentage (SLG) from hits, doubles, triples, and home runs.

What Slugging Percentage Measures

Slugging percentage (SLG) measures a batter's power output by giving more weight to extra-base hits. Unlike batting average, which treats every hit equally, SLG rewards doubles, triples, and home runs because they advance the batter more bases. It represents the average number of total bases a hitter earns per at-bat.

The Formula

Each type of hit is weighted by the number of bases it produces, then the total is divided by at-bats:

  • Singles = Hits − Doubles − Triples − Home Runs
  • Total Bases (TB) = (1 × Singles) + (2 × Doubles) + (3 × Triples) + (4 × Home Runs)
  • Slugging Percentage (SLG) = Total Bases / At Bats

Typical SLG Ranges

  • .550+ - Excellent (elite power hitter)
  • .500-.549 - Very Good
  • .450-.499 - Above Average
  • .400-.449 - Average
  • Below .400 - Below Average

Note: This calculator provides slugging percentage based on the inputs you provide. The number of singles is derived as hits minus doubles, triples, and home runs, so ensure your hit totals are accurate. Sacrifice flies and other situational events do not affect slugging percentage.
