WHIP Calculator

Calculate a pitcher’s walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP).

What WHIP Measures

WHIP stands for Walks plus Hits per Inning Pitched. It is one of the most common baseball statistics for evaluating a pitcher, measuring how many baserunners a pitcher allows per inning through walks and hits. A lower WHIP means the pitcher is keeping more runners off the basepaths.

The Formula

  • WHIP = (Walks + Hits Allowed) / Innings Pitched
  • Innings pitched may be expressed as a decimal (for example, 180.2 innings is entered as 180.2).

What Is a Good WHIP?

  • Below 1.00 - Excellent (elite, ace-level)
  • 1.00-1.10 - Very Good
  • 1.10-1.25 - Above Average
  • 1.25-1.40 - Average
  • Above 1.40 - Below Average

Note: This calculator provides a standard WHIP figure based on walks, hits allowed, and innings pitched. It does not account for intentional walks or other context-dependent metrics. These calculations assume all statistical inputs are accurate.
